Why are they not compatible, and what does it take to install the deployable boards?.
Thanks guys.
I wasn't aware that they weren't compatible, that's wierd. From what I've read, to add the oem power steps after obviously more expensive and involves ordering numerous parts. There is a write up on here somewhere. AMP steps can be added fairly easy for approx $1200, they plug into the obd port and you dont get the in dash control for the steps.

It may be because the chrome package includes chrome running boards. Only thing you can do with the chrome package is upgrade to extended length running boards. Can't swap out for the deployable boards.
Hence why I went with Amps. I was going to add oem but it was north of 2k now for parts. 1200 bucks for amps with trim strip and haven't looked back. Plus amps are 10x quicker.
Forcal, Try building a Lariat with chrome package and the folding steps, it doesn’t work..
weird..
Do I sense some sarcasm from you? If so you obviously misread my post, I honestly never knew that, maybe because Im not a fan of chrome so never tried that combo on a build. I sincerely do find it weird that Ford wouldn't allow that combo, but wasn't doubting it. Good luck.

No sarcasm, I think you read me, or I read you wrong.
I want the steps, and the light tan interior. So it’s either a Lariat or a Limited. 10k difference. I still have to make up my mind if the Limited is worth it and if the limited resale resembles the extra cost.

Yes you are exactly spot on! Because the deployable are black they don't fit the chrome pkg. I know it sucks because the amp steps are about 300 higher aftermarket.
I like the look of the retractable running boards ,But the stationary ones help in not getting door dings from inconsiderate people . My 5 year old raptor that was my daily driver had not one door ding as their doors would hit the running board before the door lol

I think it is more than just the chrome vs black. You can't add the power boards to the sport package either and the sport package comes with black boards.

Yes but my 2016 had actual metal running boards. On my 2019 they are ****ty chromed plastic. I don't expect them to last more than a couple years before they even look ****ty.

That's pretty lucky considering most car doors, especially rears, are shaped in a way that no running board can stop. They will stop some and some is better than none. The power boards can be set in the out position if wanted while parking.
I brushed a pillar in a parking garage with my 2015 f150 and the chrome door handle pop off cover piece and running board took the damage. Like it was designed for that.
Annoyingly cost me $250 for a take off running board and taking off work for a few hours to get it done.
As far as the deployable running board its not available with the chrome package lariat. They use to let you do it on the F150 but not sure anymore.
