2000 Heat Issue

I’ve got an f150 4.2 V6 manual and love it. I just passed 273,000 miles and it’s still trucking strong.

My heat has never worked very well at all. I’ve flushed the core out and I’ve had it done as well. Their solution was get a new core but I think it may be the blend door actuator.

My AC is always just 100% cold. Moving the thermostat does nothing (it may warm a tiny bit but it’s marginal)

Also one pipe going into the the heater core is remarkably hotter than the other. Not sure if it’s supposed to be like that or not.

I cant hear any actuator moving when I move the thermostat. I know that doesn’t mean it’s not working but in an old truck I’d figure you would hear something haha

What’s the best way to figure out what the problem is?

also any tips or things I should do to help out a truck with this high of mileage are greatly appreciated! I plan on driving it until it drives its last mile.

You just answered your own question,.
You can't control air direction.
Fix the blend door operation.
Likely needs the Door replaced, a common failure at old age.
Good luck.

...and you have a restricted heater core or something else causing reduced flow through that loop.

^^ this. If you had good flow through the heater core then both lines would be hot. Flushing the core doesn't really help much if half of it is clogged then the water will flow though the unclogged portion. The blend door is bad for breaking too but I think the restricted core is the main problem. It would be wise to replace the door if you do get the core replaced so you wont have to go into it again.
