So I have a 1996 f150 with a 4.9 in it. I have recently done a lot of engine work. I had the head and manifolds ported and polished I have a bigger exhaust a cold air intake and I upgraded to the 15lb accel injectors. I also upgraded the coil to a new high output accel coil and put bigger plug wires on it with new plugs. Once I had the truck back together it ran great for about an hour and then started to give me issues. It started to hesitate when I let off the throttle and it would backfire and stall out. I pulled it apart thinking one of my new injectors had failed and replaced them but I'm still having issues. Anyone have any idea? The truck was sitting for some time so I put heet in the fuel which did nothing. Clogged fuel filter maybe? I'm hoping it's nothing major. The only thing I didn't mess with is the lower end and the cam shaft. Could a bad cam cause these issues?
Since you have done some things to something I don't know if I can help but have you checked timing since you did your work.
So it ended up being the timing and too much gap on the plugs. It's weird though because it ran perfect for about an hour of highway driving and then started acting up. So thats a little confusing, but it runs great now.

Glad you got it going good now let's don't look back. Sandy
