Rocker Panel- Replace or Patch
I have been lurking around the "vintage" part of this forum while I worked on plans to start restoring my Grandfathers 56 F100. The knowledge here is excellent!
As seems to be the norm for these pickups, the front cab corners are toast. On this particular pickup, they were gone 40+ years (prior to my grandpa purchasing it) ago when someone decided to fill and shape all the corners with body filler, to be honest, it was done good enough to have everyone fooled until cracks started to appear.
This weekend I started cutting out the worst of the rot to get a better idea of how much metal needs to be replaced. With the exception of the forward most portion of the rocker is toast, the rest of it (rocker stiffener back) is solid metal. I have replacement rockers (53-55 style) ready to go in but am wondering if I should just patch the bad portion instead?
This is the best picture I have of the remaining rocker.
