I have a 48 8BA that I just pulled from my F68 and in Canada we like to go to Princess Auto for many things so I bought a 1250 lb engine stand. I was going to mount this conventionally but have been reading about some risks if mounted on bell housing. Some say that this year is OK and earlier is a problem due to a bell housing weakness. Some say that the manifold adapter is the way to go and makes working on it easier. Help!

On the 8BA engines bolting to the engine stand is ok if bolting directly to the block, never bolt to the truck bellhousing. Same with the 59AB with the half bell, a lot of weight for that thin cast part to hold.
I vote for the manifold adapter simply because there isn't the entire engine weight hanging out 2-1/2 feet from the faceplate. Some heavy duty engine stands will also have a front support mount, in this case it would be ok hang it out there.
