'56 Is Home

Hello all. Got the '56 home last night after purchasing it on Monday, now the fun begins. A lot of work to do inside the cab and engine bay and installing windshield, side windows, new regulators and tracks. The rest will be installing missing/broken emblems and a lot of clean up. On a side note- anyone familiar with that rear bumper? It appears to be a factory install, so I am assuming it was an option. It looks like a service truck type bumper, but I have a lot of history on the truck and there is no mention of it ever being a service type truck. I feel very fortunate to find one with very little to no rust in the usual places.

Congrats. Show us more pics when you can.

That is not a factory bumper. It's an after market bumper.

Here is what the optional stock bumper looked like.

Thanks Abe. Someone else had told me that is was a dealer available option and was popular in the Texas area and Midwest. Whoever installed it did a good job and I am going to leave it for some added "character".

The big, aftermarket bumpers were popular, and one like that adds a lot of protection to the backside of the truck and the fenders. I agree it's a keeper with character. All you need is a fresh coating of an argent silver, and it will look as good as the rest of the truck.

You are almost correct.
Bumpers like yours were supplied by aftermarket suppliers, dealers would order trucks with no bumper and have your style installed as they performed duties a lot better than the stock channel bumper.
Most of these western bumpers had the dealer and state on them by ways of letters that were cut out in the bumper
ive always been a fan of those rugged bumpers

I don't like how they attach to the rear of the fender. That would be a source of rust.

My truck never had a bumper. I guess grandpa didn't want to spend the extra dollars.
