Are hedders worth installing?

Are hedders worth installing?
I'm considering installing hedders in my 95 F150 w/302, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. I've seen old posts where guys have had problems with hedders leaking and/or cracking. Do you really notice any improvement in performance and gas mileage? If I do decide to install them, is there any particular brand that mates well with the 302? Thanks fellas.

Are hedders worth installing?
LAST EDITED ON 17-Apr-01 AT 11:26 PM (EST)[p]I had headers installed to replace the cracked exhaust manifolds because they were cheaper than new exhaust manifolds. The guy at the little speed shop I bought them from said I would definitely notice a difference. There was no power increase, at least none noticeable. I got hedman headers and I am happy with them. They did not leak at first but now a leak is developing at the Y pipe flange. This could be due to the fact that I had the headers installed by the guy I bought them off. He's got a little shop, no hoist or anything. I guess headers are OK. I wouldnt go out and replace perfectly good exhaust manifolds.
I also put in a K&N filter. As for gas mileage... no increase in that either.
just my 5 cents

I put on a set of Summit shorty headers, (made by flowtech) and I did notice a little bit of an increase (not a whole lot.)
But I also rebuilt my entire exhaust system at the same time! New high flow catalytic convertor, and a 2 chamber flowmaster with dual tailpipes and two 3 1/2 inch tips, 24 inches long.
That is the reason I felt an increase, is becuse the engine can now breathe much better. I do have an intake mod planned, removing the two tubes from the air cleaner box and to the throttle body. I am planning to have some exhaust pipe bent to match the current rubber setup, and just use the rubber hose ends at the box and the throttle body. Plus taking out the accordian tubing from the core support to the box out and hvaing new exhaust tubing put in it's place. That will make the air much smoother coming in, and not give it any restrictions.
1988 F-150, SWB, 5.0 EFI (formerly 4.9 EFI), M5OD 5 speed, 3.08 gears, Summit shorty truck headers, Custom built Flowmaster exhaust system. Force 4 LP6000 lightbar, Federal signal PA-300 100 watt siren, Icom IC-V100 50 watt mobile radio.

1965 F-100 (just purchased 1/18/01), SWB, 390, C-6 auto. Dual exhaust, Not much else to do to it.
