My F68 has a flat head 8 that is stamped made in Canada 8BA. The firewall tag provides the Engine number 8J-1008
I have been researching the engine and getting mixed results.
First, is this a 1948 engine as some data suggests the 8BA was a 1949 engine and that the truck should have been labelled an 8RT (I know they are essentially the same)?
Does the engine serial number tell me anything more?

8 says it was 1948 239 late series engine
J means it came with the 4 spd trans
8RT was just a designation on some accessories - heads for instance
The 8BA series started with the 48 trucks, Jan 16, 1948
That's about all there is to know.

Where do you get that info? Just curious cause I've never seen that published.

Earlier V8s listed at 525
I wonder if you're thinking of the 337 flathead from F7 and F8 trucks. I've heard it weighs a couple hundred pounds more...
