2014 F250 King Ranch 6.7 Diesel. I was searching for an appropriate place to pass a hotwire from the cab to the engine compartment when I saw this on the passenger-side dashboard. A little door with a "no fuel" icon. When I opened it, it looks like there's a little valve of some kind in there. See photos attached, zooming in from far out to close up. I can't see in there but I'll take a stab...could it be the reset for the fuel pump--the one that would be tripped in a major impact? or is that just on gas vehicles?
Well, I didn't even know such a thing existed. But like an idiot, I stuck my finger in there and pushed the top of it and heard a CLICK. So I guess I should go out there and start it and drive it around the block and make sure I'm not running out of fuel.
But what if I hit the switch when there was no reason to? THAT's the question I have now. LOL.
Never tried it, but shouldn’t hurt anything. My guess is it might click each time you press it as a tactile response, but will obviously only reset the button if it’s actually popped up
All I could think of was my granddad telling me, "Look, don't go pushing buttons that you don't know what they do." I've even said that to my son and even my employees.
Here I am, 60 f---ing years old and haven't learned a thing.
That is the fuel inertia switch that has been present on every Ford vehicle equipped with fuel injection utilizing an electric fuel pump since the 80s, designed to open the fuel pump circuit during impact or collision.
That is s a much better location and identification than the older vehicles have! Be thankful. It is the first thing to check if your truck has no fuel pressure.
Used to tap the support in the trunk of our town car when unloading luggage during traveling. Kind of a fuel shut off theft prevention. I believe the newer cars and trucks illuminate warning lamp when tripped.
But what if I hit the switch when there was no reason to? THAT's the question I have now. LOL.
It only resets the fuel pump shut off when it actually got shut off. When the shut off didn't shut off, pushing the button will do NOTHING.
And when a fuel pump does get shut off, you only get seconds of run time. You will know for sure if there is no pump running. This aint your grandpa's boatmotor that runs for 20 minutes after shutting off the fuel.
