I was trying to change my fuel filter and I was able to disconnect the quick release connector on the engine side of the filter easily. However, I had problems with the fuel tank side. I tried for thirty minutes and finally got it separated but that retaining clip inside fell out. So I went to Carquest and bought a Dorman quick help replacement and reinstalled that clip along with the retaining ring.
Installed the new fuel filter, checked both fuel lines and turned the key to prime it. Fuel spilled out of the fuel tank side of the connector. So I go back to Carquest and buy a Dorman replacement connector and cut the old connector. Well the conundrum is the Dorman part has a larger opening compared to the OE Ford connector. So back to Carquest and buy another fuel filter with larger and smaller nipples. I found one Carquest p/n 86300 fits perfectly but the fuel flow direction is reversed. The truck runs fine and there's no fuel leaks.
I am trying to find a similar fuel filter with a reversed fuel flow direction. Here are my choices to fix this....find the correct Dorman connector that is OE sized and use the correct OE fuel filter; use the other Dorman connector(you get a set of two) cut the engine side connector and find another filter to fit both replacement connectors....what should I do??

Good tip!!! I’ll have to remember that the next time I have to change the filter again.
Good tip! I will be needing to change out the filter on my truck soon. I have the filter, the quick disconnect tool, but now I just need to find the time!
