Starter solenoid

I’ve been having some issues with my starter not fully turning over and as I have no idea how long ago they were replaced as the original owner didn’t keep any maintenance logs I will be replacing both the starter as well as the solenoid as well as my battery cables and starter cable. My question is, is there a better aftermarket solenoid or starter system that I should be looking at? I found a Grainger 12v 80amp solenoid that looks to be built better then the stock plastic one I have currently. And the starters seem to either be all refurbished for around 20$ or a motorcraft version for 60$ sold through summit any help would be appreciated. Maybe I should also state the details, I have a 74 F100 2wd with a 390 FE and no AC if that helps

Well the solenoid you show shouldn't be used for this application as its only rated for 80 amps. If you want a permanent long lasting solenoid spend the money and do the 1500 amp CAT solenoid. I will also say you can fix both issues with a new starter, the rebuilt starters are pretty terrible and even new they draw too much amperage. Plenty of good aftermarket starters made for these engines that are smaller and gear reduction with built in solenoids. Your existing solenoid would only transfer the solenoid signal to the new starter which is very low amperage. FE STARTER CLICK HERE

That's an 80 amp continuous duty rating and way, way better than anything the el-cheapo current manufacture sell for 8 bucks. A starter relay is only in use for a split second. (Well, it's only supposed to be anyway.) The people selling Ford type relays won't list any amp rating usually, and I don't think Ford or Autolite did either. Maybe. Not continuous duty rating anyway.

If you simply have to spend more money Cole-Hersee makes a fine 200A continuous duty solenoid #24213 for around $40 that should allow for engine cranking all day and night. The engine starter though has a duty cycle of 10 minute cool down for 10 seconds of cranking.

^ E4TZ-11002-ARM Starter has 2 mounting holes because it's for a 255/300/302/351W w/a M/T

FE starter has 3 mounting holes, same 1963/76 with A/T & M/T .. 1958/62 FE uses a different starter with the HUGE Bendix inertia starter drive.
