It’s back together and I feel pretty good about it. I think the gears will be ok. Backlash is about dead middle of the listed specs of .007-.009 at .008. Pattern looks pretty good.

It’s back under the truck. Test drive it and there’s a faint hint of the same noise in the mph range of 40-50mph. I suspected this since I drive a 100 miles with a bad set up. Just need to drive and see if it will settle in and establish a normal pattern now that I have the set up correct.

GREAT....

I have had good success reusing gears, as long as I get NEW bearings and a GOOD pattern.

Noise hasn't really gone away which I knew would happen. I was hoping the bad hydraulic pump sound between 45-55 would go away. I do believe it is not as bad as the first incorrect set up but that could just be me wishing and hoping its not as bad. Under a load there is no noise at all. You can hear the noise start around 40 and go away around 60 when under very light throttle. Either way I am sure its not going to get much better if any better at all. I still have just under 300 miles before i reach the 500 mile break in so who knows. I figure I have nothing to lose at this point so i may as well drive the full break in period and see what happens and try to make my mistake a learning experience.

After driving it with 3.73 gears I'm now thinking of going to 4.10 gears. It would be very close to a stock tire truck running a 3.73. I think it may be best for towing and I do very little highway driving anyways. Plus if I ever wanted to go bigger than a 33 inch tire I will have a better gear for that.

I really want to buy gears that I can use the crush sleeve eliminator kit on but would like to use Yukon gears which I can not use the crush sleeve Eliminator kit on. Motive gears and some of the other lower brands will allow the eliminator kit but I am not to sure about those other gears and i am not sure if I want to try Motive gears again even though it was my mistake that ruined the current Motive gears. If I can find a set of used Ford gears for a good price I would give them a shot.
