New with ABS Leak
I have a 2003 F150 4.2L purchased new. It developed a brake fluid leak well over a year ago with a pedal that was just like a master cylinder gone bad, having to pump the pedal, fading pedal at a stop etc.. Replaced the master a couple of times thinking it was a bad part but it wasn't. I was losing brake fluid periodically so I chased it with a few other parts and still no help. The fluid leak got worse and now I add about 1/3 of a pint every 7-10 days. Finally someone questioned all the dry fluid build up around the ABS ( I assume it is the pump since it has all the brake lines attached). After degreaser and hosing off and with the help of a mirror I located the leak. It is one of the two whitish plugs on the bottom side of the unit facing the firewall leaking on the underside of the plug. I am by no means a mechanic but I can manage pretty good with enough information so I need some advice.
I cannot find info on how to deal with the leak. Can it be tightened, replaced with another plug (?), does it need to be rebuilt? Also, I don't know if it is pressurized, can be bled normally or it is a different method if the plug is removed.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Mike
I will try. It is mounted to the wheel well I think. Had to use a mirror to see it.
It may be a few days, dealing with a different leak unfoirtunately, busted water line in house and damage.
Thanks,
Mike
