The bypass kit does not prevent the cp4 pump from grenading it only saves the rest of the fuel system from damage when the pump grenades.

I have used the Motorcraft pm 22a cetane booster most of the life of the truck. I buy it at the parts Dept of my Ford Dealer . Same thing with the Motorcraft DEF
and I document all these purchases.
This CP4 pump scares the crap out of me and while I love my truck, its the technical stuff like this that makes me question why I have this truck when I’m not truly hauling anything that needs a diesel. But damn, I love this truck.

I became aware of the CP4 issues before I bought my truck. I researched all I could and decide to run Opti-lube XPD from the beginning for added lubricity. So far so good. When or if my CP4 bites the bullet I'll be sure to post. Until then, I'm going to enjoy my truck and keep using Opti-lube.

Wouldn't any aluminum shavings found in the frame rail filter come from the lift pump? If so that means the lift pump is also affected by ULSD.

I had a very similar post before purchasing my '19 6.7 .. and the overwhelming response was "not an issue anymore". no question there was a flaw in the CP4 used in multiple platforms, not unique to Ford. However the CP4.2 which was tweaked (not a full redesign) I've yet to see any serious discussion about failures. That includes other forums besides FTE. I run the same as several of you, Motorcraft cetane booster, and I'm not going to worry about this further until there's some reason to...which after a couple of years of the updated CP4 being in use, I've yet to see any indication its worth worrying about.

I am no expert on these engines or the HPFP. I'm learning like many here. This is my first diesel but the vast knowledge of the people in the 6.7l diesel forum state there is a fuel return line that sends unused fuel back to the fuel tank.

When the HPFP begins to fail it will send aluminum shavings back to the fuel tank, which the lift pump will filter out. At this point it's to late the damage has been done and a fuel contamination kit is required to repair the fuel system to the tune of just over 4k labor not included.
