Was looking to get the 6.2 with the 4.3 axle. I thought the 9,900 GVWR was a paperwork thing and there is no difference with an F250 without that "package". Interesting idea with the snowplow option but if I read correctly that is only for 4x4s and I am leaning to a 4x2
9,900 GVWR is just a paperwork number, no physical difference. The F-350 can also be downgraded.

I take it you are in Florida. If you do go 2WD, definitely get the rear locking differential. Getting stuck maneuvering in a sandy campground would be quite embarrassing. The 6.2 and 4.30's sound perfect otherwise
The F250 HD Package , 6k Plow Pkg , 10k GVWR will get you the same ability as the F350 ( same part numbers as used on F350 ) with lower insurance and registration costs . Most states do not consider F250 a commercial vehicle .
My state makes determinations based on GVWR, not based on fender badge nomenclature or model name. So an F-250 with a 10K GVWR would be treated no differently than an F-350 with a 10K GVWR.
I am towing a bumper pull that weighs 7600. That trailer is on the edge of my tongue and axle limits for my 2006 Titan not to mention payload. Been happy with the Titan just want more performance with my next truck. It looks like the Ford towing guide makes it convenient to find the figures for the different truck configurations.
sometimes I miss my 06 titan, usually i miss the 2011 pro4x though. that was fun. until it fell apart..... yea you're gonna laugh at how well the ford pulls the trailer. Also daily driving down the highway is glorious in these trucks.
Mark - many people say there is no difference between an upgraded 250 and a 350.
i am here to tell you that they are different on paper, on specs, and on the actual trucks, and in use.
a dealer had exactly what we are describing for the comparison. I put them side by side and started comparing. There were many differences. The springs were different size and quantity. Measurements from the ground to parts of the truck were different.
next I took each on the same test drive. Bumpy roads, winding roads, hills, and a stretch of new pavement. For ease of driving, a solid tight feeling on hills curves and bumps, and just general overall feel, and most important which truck would I want to drive everyday? I chose the 350. It felt like a solid machine that was tight from high precision.parts and manufacturing. The 250 felt like a lesser truck trying to be a 350.
the dealer did not have a truck that fit my list of must-have and no-way features. So they looked for about 3 weeks and found nothing. A couple weeks later they tried again and found a truck that met all of my requirements, but had a few options that were acceptable and useful, but unnecessary.
I knew what I wanted for all of the drive train, engine, and suspension. So, I asked wifey her opinions about what comfort and style options to get. So, wifey said get every mechanical feature that I may use and get every comfort option for when she rides shotgun. She also said get every comfort option that would be comfortable for my broken back injury. Finally she said get every safety option so that I could work safely and come home in good condition. And then she said the best part - I will buy it for you as an all-purpose husband gift. So I had only one truck payment.
The F350 is a dream truck! It is the truck that every man wants.

People only compare, or say "there is no difference" between the 250 with HD towing package and the 350. Aside from 1 leaf I believe, they share the same parts. The OP didn't state he had an interest or need for that unless I missed it.
The 350 is not built with any more precision in it's parts or manufacturing. A standard 250 differs from the 350 in rear end and rear leaf springs, most everything else is in fact the same. A like for like 250 sits slightly higher in the rear and should have a lighter curb weight than a 350.
Mark, the decision comes down to anticipated use and budget, or just what you want. I would think a 2wd, gas 250 would have a pretty high payload capacity and towing capacity high enough for your use. I dont see many 2wd SuperDuty here, but they look to be quite a bit lower than the 4x, so your hitch would be lower too.
