coffee math

Hi,
Have had an issue with this for a while. Folger's claims that their 22 or so oz coffee is good for 180 cups and the 33 oz does 240. Really(!). I use 1 scoop for 2 of the coffeemaker's cups -- and the scoops are a tablespoon -- pretty much an oz. That gives me anoout 40 cups for the small cans and 66 cups for the bigger ones.

Maybe they're using a different formula. The fine ladies at my wife's church (when she lived at home) would provide the stuff for 'fellowship' after the service. Cookies and cakes were always good, but the coffee was lightly tinted hot water. (The ladies were really great, but I think that they just started their 2nd can of coffee).

Anyway, perhaps that's the calculation that Folger's is using.

Your cup size is too big and no I'm not talking about your bra!!!

Important information. For all coffee makers. for best brewing results, we recommend: cold water - 1 serving (6 fl oz) with 1 tablespoon of folgers coffee; 10 servings with 1/2 measuring cup of folgers coffee. this canister makes 240 to 270 6 oz cups.

So the question is: How much water do you add to your coffee maker per cup?

Maybe he needs to check his bra size, too. After all his signature says he's out of Fords, so there's no telling what else is wrong in his life...

And yes, the official coffee cup size is useless. My daily mugs are 20 and 24 oz, depending on which truck I'm driving. (Yes, I keep one in each truck...)

Not sure about your math ( and stop checking my cleavage).

I just got out my kitchen scale. One tbsp is about 1/2 ounce. I use a 1/2 ounce for 2 cups as marked on the side of the coffee maker. So, I was a little off. But that means 4 coffee maker cups per ounce. '240 cup ' can of coffee is 33 ounces. 4 x 33 = 132 not 240 or 270.

And if Folgers says 1 scoop for 1 cup then it's 1 ounce of coffee for only 2 cups -- 66 cups for the 'big ' can. Maybe they use metric ounces

That would be a weak azz pour of coffee to me. I'm a retired sailor and I like black and bitter and I like about 10-12 ounces in the morning in first cup.

Additionally Folgers reminds me of something that boiled with an old leather boot, yuk.

Find a good Arabic / Colombian blend with a very fine grind and you'll soon discover that 1 tablespoon will likely meet your needs.

Based on the appearance of your avatar, you passed "cleavage" a long time ago and have a distinct resemblance to Tom.

I grew up drinking boiled coffee. Parents, Grandparents, Aunts/Uncles, they all made it that way so I didn't know anything else existed until I was close to 20. The basics are simple. Boil until it percolates, then serve. When the pot reaches 1/2 full just add water and grounds and heat up again. I swear that coffee's the reason I could shave at 13. But it's also the reason I can't drink colored water. I love strong coffee, but I'll pass on old or acidic coffee. Yucko....

I use one of those pour over cones. If I want a second cup I boil more water.

I like it with a little bit of heavy cream no sugar.

I really can't think of much at all until I got to large mugs of Coffee mostly swallowed, sometimes the cool down and a reheat + more is substantial but it's all good. My thought is I really don't care for the strength of Coffee house Coffees. Sure, the Latte are fun occasionally. My breakfast/brunch mode is on after that 1st mug of Black with a lil Half n Half each morning.

Snowball prefers Cuisinart & I don't pass I just don't prefer the 1 mug at a time brewing space. I'm up and Dabb pouring a lot 2.

I'm already missing the original name of this thread....

I used to drink 1 latte/week. My office had an unofficial program where several of us would head down to Border's Books every Thursday morning and take full advantage of their technology section with some self study. The latte was a great pick-me-up.

My daily drink though is coffee, optionally with a dab of cream. If I'm drinking out of a glass mug I want my coffee black. But most of my coffee drinking is out of a 20 ounce, plastic, thermal mug. The coffee leeches flavor from the plastic, but the cream tones that down.
