I need to tighten my parking brake. I see the adjuster on the drum but I do not know which way to turn it to tighten it. Any help would be great. Thanks
I just did this on my own 1999 f150. On the driver's side I had to push upward on the teeth of the adjuster to tighten the brake. Not sure about the passenger side as I haven't had to mess with it or taken the rotor off to see how the screw is oriented.
If you live in a northern state you may want to check that the lever where the brake cable connects on the back of the dust shield can move freely. These are notorious for rusting solid in my neck of the woods.
According to the FSM, the correct way to adjust the parking brake shoes is to measure the inside diameter of the drum and then adjust the outside diameter of the shoes to be .5 mm (0.020) less than that.

That would only work if the rotors are new without a rusty lip to try and fit over the adjusted shoes.
