Smells Rich!

Hello all. I have a 02 escape,3.0V6. It runs great except it smells like its running rich! And i get an occasional P0430 code. Not sure if there related? I can clear the code and drive it for day's,sometime weeks before it comes back. Could it be a failing O2 sensor? Or a bad catalytic converter? It has 236,000KM on it. Don't know if plugs have ever been changed? I just recently bought it. Thanks in advance!!

P0430 = catalytic converter not functioning well, this can contribute to a rich-burning smell.
