Looking for long term owner Feedback - Reliability
Long story short I am looking for others input on how reliable their trucks have been over past few years. I use to post on here a lot and had loads and loads of issues with both my original 2017 SD Lariat Ultimate and the replacement one. I am really tired of having to go to the shop every second month to get something fixed.
So am I just bad luck or are other users having lots of problems? Between the two trucks I have had:
Breaks installed wrong from factory
Paint streaks under the clear coat
Rear camera malfunctions on both trucks
Wiring harness replaced on latest truck
DEF issues. Replaced reductant pump and sensor
More DEF issues NOS sensor fell out
Keyless entry malfunctioning truck would not lock or unlock
Countless remote start failures due to check enging lights
Batteries over flowing and corroding terminal and battery mount brackets
Charging System failure
Radio resetting on cold starts
Extremely rough starts in winter when plugged in
Block heater cord failure
Center console sliding door stuck
Start button panel fall off
Shock sensor triggering on sound but not impacts (this is of course a ford aftermarket addon)
Ford Access fail to work (servers go down once and a while. Can take up to a month to get back online)
I am sure there is more I forgot but in 2 years I have had more issues then the truck I had before for 8 years. I am looking at replacing this truck and really wondering if Ford is the way to go so need some help assuring me that not all Fords are work in progresses.
I have a 2017 F450 king ranch and haven't had any major issues at all. The only thing is I had the same battery corrosion like every one else. I loosened up the battery tie downs and cleaned them and haven't had an issue since. I feel like a lucky owner with all the issues every one else talks about. I should add that other than a few FORScan changes the struck is the same as when it rolled off the assembly line.
2017 KR as well and really zero issues. Had a piece of trim that needed repairing and a rattle to fix. Other than these it has been flawless and awesome diesel power! Lots of mods and all tech has run perfectly.
First bought a 2017 F-250 Lariat Ultimate CCSWB 6.7 PSD in Nov of 2016. I kept it 18 months then sold it my son. He still has it and just turned 90k last week. It had the transmission issue that ended up being a recall and he had an issue with the sunroof that had to be repaired. Outside of that he's had to put new batteries in it. Nothing else (aside from the fact he's a lift kit a-holic) has been touched.
I have an '18 F-350 Platinum Ultimate, same configuration, purchased in April of '18. 58k miles and no problems. The only thing that it's been in the shop for besides maintenance was for some kind of sensor that had to be replaced (under warranty). Both trucks were/are used towing extensively. I would say they are pretty reliable. Good luck.
I had a 2017 F250 CCSB Lariat Ultimate. Put 60k miles (over 90k kms) on it. Did my own oil changes and filter changes. NEVER went back to the dealer. Never had a single issue. Hands down the best truck I ever owner. It was driven as well. Based in Montreal, drive many times towards Thunder Bay and then as far as one can go to the east, Saint John's, NL. Still waiting for my 2019 F350 to show up (scheduled for end of August). I pray it will be just as good!
About 50K on my 2017 F250 KR 6.7. Replaced Sunroof rails once, had front camera replaced once due to haziness, new camera worked great for a couple of years but its starting to get hazy again, did the fuel sending unit recall. Had to replace both front headlights after the adjustment screws broke when I was trying to adjust them after a leveling kit. Otherwise no major issues. Everything was fixed under warranty except for headlights I was outside the 3yr/36 but the third party warranty I had took care of it. Which I was very thankful for because the 2 new LED headlights where 4K installed. overall still happy with the truck I would buy another one.
I have an early build 2017 F350 KR CC 4x4 SRW with about 30K miles on it. I have not experienced any of the issues that you have listed. Been a pretty trouble free 33 months. I have the dealer perform the required maintenance. A couple of recalls for the block heater and seat belt latch in the back seat. I do have an air leak issue when driving above 75 MPH and strong head or cross winds. It sounds like a train whistle. Dealer can't duplicate so I only drive on calm days. I tow a 43' North Point 377 RLBH 5th wheel trailer and have no issues at all.
2017 F250 KR ... 2 years in with 13,500 miles ... Only issue was one I caused. Haven't even pulled/opened the electrical connectors near the spare tire to check for moisture. 16.9 MPG lifetime average.
Good to hear not all of these new trucks are shop rats. The latest issue is a wire broke some where causing the charging system to fail.
I really just want a truck that I can drive to work 400kms away from home in the bush and not be worried if I’ll make it out because of some light on the dash. Every time I have had a light on I took a picture and man do I have a lot of pictures.
2017 F-450 mason dump. V-10. Delivered 1/17. Used daily but low miles. About 8,000 on the clock. But all hauling or towing. Plowing with a load of salt in the body. Or just running around with mortar, block and iron castings along with tools. Not one single issue in over 2 years. I get frustrated sometimes plowing because with a lot of back and forth maneuvering there is a delay in application of throttle. That was the only call to the dealer. Turns out theres programming that delays application of tourque to protect the driveline. It frustrates me after 12 hours of plowing but I can see the benefit.
2019 F-250, 6.2,4.30. Only 2500 miles. Personal truck I bought because of my experience with the 2017 work truck. Right now I have an appointment for a passive restraint light when my wife is in the truck. I can make it go on and off by messing with the wires under the seat. Might be a connection. And I read on this forum that there are connections inside the frame rail that hold water. Corrosion then results in nightmares of electrical gremlins. I investigated my connections and found some full of water after less than 500 miles. I drained them, filled them with the proper grease and rotated them so the femail coupling faces down. In the short term Im loving the truck.
I did buy a 10 year 100,000 mile warrantee because I am afraid of all the electronic complexity and chinese electrical components. But Im hoping thats just paranoia...everythings too complex for me these days.
What I really want is a 1955 second series Chevy Napco or a 1965 F-350...
It's gets back to Ford dismal loose specifications. Example is Ford Caster for wheel alignment is -2 to 6 degrees, my 2001 lexus is 4 degrees +/-5 minutes. Not even a degree of variance. 8 out of 10 trucks probably go forever, 2 out of 10 have problems because of bad specs. I have a 2017 Lariat Ultimate, only issue I had is slight pull to right dealer said was in spec, LMAO. My camber wa at 6 degrees I to asked them to move it to 4 degrees, they said no it within spec. Classic idiots. Light green its good.... Ignore the customers feedback. I got it aligned but not at a Ford dealership its perfect now. I have a tic and plastic pieces crackling depending on temperature only noise but being a domestic it meets my expectations. If it were a Toyota it be at the dealer.
