I have a 1999 f250 manual transmission. During the summer after driving with the AC on for a time if you stop and shut off the truck and then try a restart, the starter will crank the engine over, but it will not start. If you push the truck and "pop" the clutch it will start and run fine. The engine has to barely turn over to have it run by the "push start", and I mean less than walking speed. If you cannot push or roll the truck, then it must sit for minutes, or hours before it can be started by the starter. The fuel pump and computer relay has been changed with no effect. This one has me baffled. Anyone have experience with this, or know what the problem is?
The one thing I can think of is, moving the truck might jostle the fuel pump enough to get it running again. Next time this happens, whack the gas tank with 2x4, or just crawl underneath and kick it a few times. The fuel pump might be stalling.
This seems to be an issue from heat soak, something is losing contact when that condition sets in. Why it will start easily when pushed or popping the clutch is baffling. I'm curious if when this happens again could a battery jumper start assist be tried?
Of course this could be 100% related to the fuel pump but since that's so far rearward of the engine it might not be affected by heat soak.
Update: Truck did it's usual no start "game", tried using the starter to crank, and pushing down on go pedal about an inch per Krewat suggestion in another post, VIOLA! started right up. So, if I read right, that is an indication of an IAC problem, correct?
Ordered Motorcraft parts on Amazon, and I'm going to change it out next week and will get back to the forum. Thanks Krewat! Hopefully this will be the solution
Part numbers for this IAC replacement are: CX-1870 or YC2Z-9F715-CH for the IAC
Gasket part number is CG-763 or F7UZ-9F670-AB
For 1999 f250 V10. Most probably fits many other years of V10
Ok, here is the scoop on the IAC replacement to hopefully solve the no start when hot problem. It appears a bad IAC was the culprit, I ran the AC today in 94 degree weather, made several stops, and truck started up each time with no problem. Before replacement of the new part, the truck was also surging, and accelerating by itself when shifted into third gear, and that problem is also gone. So replacing the valve fixed two gremlins. Bought the OEM parts from Amazon for 60 bucks, see earlier post. Much thanks go to Krewat as I read some of his earlier posts in my research, and as a result was able to determine the problem. Thanks Krewat!!!
I can take no credit for that - I learned about the IAC here before I even became a moderator back in 2006, while @Monsta was still the V10 forum moderator.
