Heater Control Valve

I have a coolant leak on the left side of my engine (when facing the front of the vehicle). The device that is leaking/dripping has several hoses coming out of it and what looks like a little piece of copper tubing. It is located right over the plugs/wires and exhaust manifold. Is this the heater control valve? If not, can somebody tell me what it is? Couldn't find it in the diyalldata.com site and don't want to sound too ignorant at the parts counter. If it is that, any idea on the cost?

Thanks

Hi azxr, welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts!

It's a little hard to tell from your description ...do you mean the Water Diverter Valve (see dagram below)?

Thanks much.

This sound sounds like the problem my truck developed earlier today. I noticed coolant pooling to the inside, behind the passenger side fron tire. I could not find the source of the leak, not evident fro looking into the engine compartment or looking up. When I got it home, it was not leaking anymore. I will have to so out tomorrow and sort it out.

Any other ideas what it could be? Is there an easy way to get into this area of the engine compartment, given all the ac stuff in the way?

Thanks

I had a problem like that. I was loosing coolant, but couldn't find any leaks. I kept adding antifreeze, but the level would just go down. I thought for sure I had a bad head gasket, but then I noticed there was always antifreeze on the inside fender well around the remote resevior. I figured origionally it was just because i spilled aome anitfreeze, but when i could't find anywhere else, I figured why not replace it. Turns out it had a bad seam on the underside and would leak only under pressure, when the engine was running. bought a new one from ford for $40, and never had a problem since.

Got a small mirror and flashlight out this morning and sure enough the leak was coming from the little tube sticking out the firewall. Pulled the heater core and that was the culprit. $20 and a little bit of work and we're back to normal. Took the time changed the oil and did some other maintenance. After yesterday I was ready to go truck shopping this morning, guess I can put that off another few months.
