Hi i have a 77 f250 highboy and im having an issue trying to figure stuff out ab the suspension i like the height as is but my leafs are looking old and so are my shocks can some one explain the difference in suspension from highboys and normal f250 or if anyone knows where i can get them to keep the height thank u
First, I'd learn how to use punctuation; that made my head hurt trying to figure out what you were saying. Second, Highboy's sat higher because of the factory 3" block in the rear. Not sure what they did on the front but the backs just have a 3" block. I'm sure a few guys will be along soon to dive into more detail. Until then, I'd edit your post and add some commas and periods.
I only remember the term "Highboy" coming about only after the big change in mid-'77 to a lower ride height on the four-wheel drive trucks made identifying them some better way a necessity. Or at least a desirable trait especially when talking about the '77 model year specifically.
And for fun too, by adding a nickname.
Otherwise the older trucks were not "lifted" per sé, they were just that height and that was it. Of course the 2-wheel drive trucks were much lower.
So a spring designed for a '73 to '77 F250 4-wheel drive truck is for a Highboy and is going to give you a stock ride height.
Do you know for a fact that it's an early '77 and a Highboy? Does it have all the factory telltales of one, or could it be a later '77.5 "lowboy" that has been lifted with an aftermarket suspension?
I think some pictures would help us out here see what you have, and then be able to better make suggestions.
We don't want to get it wrong, because the rear springs especially are quite different from the later F250's in size and design. The front springs are different too, but not by as much in the width and length department.
So pics would be helpful.
Most of the Ford trucks of that era had one size block or another in the rear. Even Broncos had a tapered 1-ish inch block on many models. The Highboy blocks may have been consistently taller than others, but the thick spring pack on some was part of the equation.
The rear spring pack on the Highboys was narrower than the later trucks, as was the frame width, but the pack was especially thick with lots of leaves which also added to the height.
The front springs were standard arch like you expect on a leaf spring (center point lower than the eyes at the ends), while the later trucks used a reversed-arch spring with only two leaves (at least in most packs) instead of more.
Maybe they all had only two leaves, but I'm not sure what kind of front options there were. Even my F350 has only two front leaves per pack.
