My 1988 F-250 with a 7.3 LD with ATS turbo, is running rough , bucking and kicking, and stalls out. Then it is hard to get started again. It appears as though it has a fuel problem, but I dont know if it is the mechanical pump on the engine or the fuel distribution block that is on the top from of the engine. The filter has been replaced, the fuel lines from the tank crossover valve and the valve have been replaced. I'm getting ready to replace the mechanical pump, and I'm hoping that is the problem. If it is the fuel distribution unit, anyone have any ideas for things to check there. I am very qualified for gas engines, but am a little out of my element with the diesal. All the info I can find is for power stroke diesels. any suggestions on where to find appropriate vids on the earlier models, like mine.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.
How long have you owned the truck?
how many miles are on it?
currently Does it ever run smoothly?
when was the last time it ran without a problem?
has it ever had the injector pump or injectors changed?
I think I would hook a diesel can up to the front of the truck to bypass everything to the injection pump and see if that helps, it's a cheap and easy test to trouble shoot what direction the problem is,
