Tailgate Removal Kit?

OK. On my 02SD it was easy to remove the tailgate. On my 19 it appears to be a bit more involved due to the camera and tailgate lock and the harnesses from the frame into the bottom of the tailgate.

On page 75 of the manual, it talks about a tailgate removal kit in the glove box, which will plug the frame connections where you unplug the harnesses.

My dealer is saying there is no such kit.......I've not been in to show him the manual because I'm waiting for my plates and a couple of other things.

Is there such a kit, and if there is what is the part number?

TIA

Its included the dealer prep package for every truck and goes in the glovebox. Just a dummy plug for the elements.

I take my tailgate off every spring in order to haul my slide in truck camper and it does not go back until late fall when I put the camper away for the winter. My electrical connection has two plugs, one for the back up camera and one for the tailgate lock.

All you have to do is unplug those two connections and then take the two caps that should have been in your glove box and slide them on the truck side connectors in order to protect the electrical prongs from dirt, water etc. It is as simple as that and easy to do.

If your truck did not come with those caps, it should have and your dealer should provide them to you.

I took mine off today and I have 4 plugs. Kit in brand new truck only has 3 and one doesn't fit anything. The two twin connectors on the left don't have anything. So the twin's on the truck are open to elements and not sure yet if the cameras work.
pic's are of the 4 connectors and the kit that came in the glove box.

My tailgate also has 4 connectors, and its a pain to remove. I'll be probably leaving mine off indefinitely since the camper will be on and off. Not sure if I'm going to get a cheap light 5th wheel type tailgate or net or just not have one. Hope the bed structure isn't compromised with no tailgate on the truck. Just too heavy for one person to take on and off and the 4 connectors are a PITA! Kudos to RAM on that one to have one connector and an easier on off process!

The bed does rely on the tailgate to complete the geometric strength. Otherwise beds get splayed over time.

What kit did you get? same as mine? My camera system still works except the reverse backup. The CHSL one still works.

according to the owners manual, the caps need to be on the loose harness ends (tailgate removed) for all functionality. But I can tell you for sure that my CHMSL camera works with the tailgate off and no caps on the wires. Apparently there is something inside one of the caps (not just a cover)

I just got my truck a few days ago. The bag in the glove box has about 1/2 dozen plugs or caps in it. At some point I will have to remove the tail to put a camper.on. I used to take the tailgate off the 16 to make loading it with a forklift a a little easier. Sounds like I may try to leave the tailgate on this truck. It used to only take about a minute to remove and replace a tailgate . What the hell was Ford thinking. Many us need to remove the tailgate. And what about those antennas on the roof ? Campers going block them.

It's not as heavy as the 16 but still. Can you post a picture of the bag part number and the pieces in there? I must of gotten the wrong bag as I'm short 2 pieces. I bet your bag has the right pieces.

I didn’t count the plugs when I made my first post. There’s 5 in the bag I got. My truck has the pro backup / ultimate camera option , not sure if that makes a difference or not.
