89 f-150 2 wheel dr. i drive this now only seven miles a week. A couple weeks ago when I took it out it pulled to the right. Ok time to check front brakes. Installed new rotor, caliper, & hose that goes from frame to caliper.on the right. The left I just put on new pads. With right front jacked up I mashed the brake pedal, got out the wheel spun free. Took it out the next week and it pulls harder to the right. I am 80 yrs old and been working on cars & trucks and fully restored two 63 Pontiacs. P/S fluid is up to full. Could this be a P/S pump problem?? Thanks Gary
sounds like front end could be out of alignment, if you mean it pulls all the time or just when you apply brakes, could be issue with calipers, left side might not be clamping as hard as right side, leaking on left side
It ran straight down the road every week. The next week it pulled to the right. Then i did the brake job. See original post.. Now it pulls to the right harder. I jack it up and try to shake the wheels side to side & up and down and it is tight.. It pulls to the right just driving down the road.no brakes applied. When I apply the brakes it stops evenly. The tires only have 2000 Mi. on them .
If you lift both front wheels off the ground, measure how much torque it takes to spin them by hand, is it the same left to right or is one harder to spin?
OK, I jacked up both front wheels and spun the wheels easily the same. I started the motor and turned the steering wheel back and forth. I let the jacks down and started out my paved driveway (200 ft. ) It just kept on turning the steering wheel to the right without me touching it. So I put it in reverse and backing up the steering wheel turned to the left.without me touching it. If I was in a parking lot I could go round and round in circle..It is hard to get in there but I will have to change the pump unless you have another idea. Thanks
OK. Today I did as DA LARIAT CHARIOT suggested. Jacked up both back wheels, , both spin easy. While I was at it I pulled the wheels and drums to check. No leaks, half a shoe left. Put back together. Started down my driveway not touching the steering wheel and it kept turning right, not pulling. Backing up without touching the steering wheel it keeps turning to the left. I am almost at my wits end.
Would check your other front suspension components. Tie rod ends and the other steering joints that can be greased especially. Also look at the anti sway bar for looseness.
carp! what if when it starts first pulling, could you stop, and see if front end is laid out kinda like this \ / or laid in kinda like this / \ or if one is straight and the other side cat-a-whonkers.
