Next E150 question.

What have you guys been using to insulate the ceiling in cargo vans?

I just want to keep the heat down a little while I am parked looking for stuff in the back.

BTW I have my Pioneer head unit and back up camera waiting to go in the van too. With that said, I need my modifications to be simple, the stereo install is providing to be less than simple.

I just donʻt have time.

Personally I use a radiant barrier insulation comprised of one PVC sheet, a foil sheet and inner layer of "bubble wrap" Cut to fit the spaces between the side-to-side support ribs, double layered and attached using a spray adhesive of some sort---3M is my go to source but HomeDepot, Lowe's etc has decent alternatives.

So if time is an issue did you look into what's required for your stereo installation before beginning?

I did my research, but I have been working a lot lately and spare time is an issue.

I donʻt trust leaving my "loaded with tools" van at an installers shop so I have to fit the stereo install where time permits.

I pre spliced my wires together and planned out the wire routing already, I just have to make time to put the parts together in the van.

Iʻll look for the insulation at Loweʻs. I also want to add sound deadener to the metal shelves in the back too. My wife says it sounds like a marching band(snare drums) back there when I drive over bumps.

The Lowe's et al radiant barrier insulation I mention is a lesser quality than I use---I found mine here: Reflective Insulation That might be more than you need or want but a single stock roll will do a van with at least two full layers on side walls and ceiling.

A full roll would run you about $200 or slightly less. This product might work on the underside of your rear metal shelving too.

FWIW one thing I find that's most helpful reducing noise is a 3/4" plywood floor and filling the door cavities with unfaced fiberglass insulation. I made laminated door panels, patterns from the existing panels Ford used on a lot of vans. Those were either a pressed paper or plastic sheet material---pretty stout and make for a perfect fit.

I'm getting ready to use Thinsulate Insulation for the ceiling. It's working pretty well in a friends van.
