Hello everyone, I have a 2015 super duty 6.7 with 74000km. Basically since it was 10000km old it started having bad shifts from 6-4th but would clear up, brought it in no codes so never got fixed. It started acting up more and more and having worse shifting issues and they finally think they got it figured, they say it’s shifting solonoids are bad!! My question is with these being bad for so long is there going to be any long term damage to the transmission? Since it only has a year left under warranty, I’m considering trading it off on a 2019
Don't want to come across as a Ford Marketing toad, but that transmission is normally quite robust, most reliable.
Not sure what tool was used to get the "no codes", "shifting solenoids are bad" but I can tell you from experience with the transmission that not all tools are created equal.
Some of the better diagnostics tools --- IDS, Snap-On, etc will isolate the specific solenoid (or solenoids) by number/band/type etc electronically. You may have other problems too - unrelated to the solenoids. I know the Allison camp may disagree, but I doubt you'll find a more durable, hard/severe duty than the 6R140.............
The 2011 job 1 had bad shift solenoids (TSB 11-7-10) but haven't heard of this with newer models. Mine had the bad 2-3 shift flair after the second startup for 32,000 miles until Ford finally figured out the issues. So far, the transmission has been fine but I can't say if the useful life hasn't been shortened because of the early issues. I have around 111,000 currently. No DTC's for my experience if I remember correctly, the TCM didn't notice the issue.
Mine would shift from 2, to what seemed like N and then slam into 3rd since RPMs would be over 2,500, sometimes over 3,000 depending on how heavy the acceleration was such as pulling into a fast, busy highway.

Yeah I hear you I’m a ford guy through and through and know they have a very strong transmission, This has been a great truck other then this issue. So today I picked up my truck and bottom line, I’m very upset with the dealer and come Monday the manager better be ready for a ear full on a Monday morning. I got home and noticed a puddle under my truck, crawl under and see there is a broken bolt on the oil pan, obviously they tighten them up with a impact and it’s leaking oil everywhere. I wish I would have noticed it on the lot, unfortunately I now have another 1.5hour drive just to get to the dealer .
