19 5.0

Going to check out a 19 XLT 5.0 Monday, Gonna take it for a ride i'm a little concerned with all the talk about this 10 speed trans and start stop,, and cyclinder issues people are having. Any and all help with things to listen and feel for while on the rode or does all these things happen after the sale?

What issues have you heard about regarding the stop/ start feature?
This feature can be disabled in various ways by the owner.

Also, not every F150 with the 5.0 and 10 speed have had problems.

With that being said and to comment on the latter part of your posting, any and every "NEW" or used vehicle, regardless of the make and model will show problems after the sale of said vehicle and the odds of anything negative happening on a test drive is practically 0%.

The 10 speed issues have been pretty much sorted out by now. Getting used to how it shifts is a driver issue, not a mechanical issue. For some it takes some getting used to.

Stop/start is a non issue, and as Gabar said, is easy to disable.

The 5.0 cylinder issue is something that should be corrected for 2019. Not a lot of info coming from Ford on this. Some 2018 engines had to be replaced. I believe Smokewagon’s new block had a new part number.

An interesting item that has been reported is that 2020 F150s will initially have have a 14-16 week delay on 5.0 orders. What does that mean? Who knows.

We can start a thread to speculate on it. Or... maybe we can start a raffle as to whether they're going to put back the steel sleeves or fix the deposition problem that the first iteration seems to have sometimes?

Bought a new 2019 F-150 FX4, 5.0 and so far, it is doing well. It's a nice, strong truck. At 2,000 miles I put a quarter of a quart of oil in it to be sure it stayed full - worried like everyone else about oil consumption. It hasn't varied since and approaching 3,000 miles. The 10-speed is interesting and takes a little learning. Doesn't take long and it really is a nice new tranny. This truck is averaging over 20 mpg on our regular high altitude drive back and forth to town. Pretty amazing in my mind. Absolutely no issues so far. It was a Dearborn build and not even one squeak or rattle yet. And, it is not driven gently on rough mountain roads. The last nearly 2 miles unpaved and use 4wd daily to safely drive up a steep, loose rock hill. Impressed with this vehicle.

Well I pulled the trigger yesterday after my test drive. S/C 4x4 5.0 Ingot Silver, Funny thing is only dealer within 100 miles that had a truck with what I wanted on it and I've dealt with the salesman before. So worked out pretty good . Now hopefully no issues down the road.

I bought a 2019 XLT 5.0 back in June. I'm still not sure where I'm at on oil usage (my production date was 11/2018). First 3000 miles is hard to tell, since some usage is "normal" per the manual, and I do know I used a little. I hit 2k miles over the weekend and changed the oil (I had some towing + long idles and just wanted to set it so I knew where things were and could watch closely.

That said, I love the truck. It's different than my 17 3.5 (which I'll grant was faster), but the software or whatever improvements they made in the 10 speed are great. Mine is smooth, picks the right gear and I've had no clunking or jerking, or random downshifts like I did with the '17. I'd have happily gotten another 3.5, but they didn't have any available at the time, and I kinda fell in love with the Special Edition look and what can I say, I do love the V8 sound. If I pulled heavier stuff all the time, I would've held out for a 3.5, but my needs are met by either engine.

I also have the 2000 "rpm" tapping noise you may read about here. I'm not a mechanic, never claimed to be one, but it doesn't bother me. I think it's injector noise (direct injection kinda makes it sound like a diesel, at least mine does on cold start). When it's warm, don't notice it much at all.

You have a 5 year, 60k powertrain warranty. If for some reason the 2019 isn't sorted, I'll worry about it over the course of the next few years. I frankly wouldn't be surprised if the TSB was updated to include early production 2019 models. Time will tell.

Congrats on the new truck, enjoy it. I love mine.

Not sure where to post this so this thread seemed appropriate since I have a '19 5.0, just completed a trip from CT to MD last week, got 20.7mpg (with a bit of jack rabbit city driving) manual calculation. LOM said 23mpg. Outstanding considering it's an eight cylinder truck! My last truck, the V10 F250 was lucky to get 13 on the highway!

Also on oil consumption, I was down a QT+ after about 3000 miles after picking it up new at the dealer. Figured I had the consumption issue so I brought it into the dealer to look at, they said it's normal (shocker) and topped it off with a QT+. Now after and additional 1500 miles it hasn't budged. Will keep my eye on it and report back.
