I have an 86 F250 6.9 automatic. It's shifting hard at higher rpms than usual and the brakes are stiff until just before I come to a complete stop. Any ideas? Jim
Yeah, that thing under the alternator. I just had to replace mine about a month ago. Only bad part about getting the new one on there is you need a power steering type puller to remove the old pulley and put it back on the new pump with a puller bolt (it at least comes with that in the box).
PS pulley pullers (say that three times fast!) are around ten to twenty bucks for one that has at least two sizes of pulley it can handle. They can be had from any generic parts store.
It might seem like something you'll seldom use, but I've had mine in play a lot more times than I thought I would when I bought it. And you know what they say about specialised tools:
"It's better to have it and not need it, than need it real bad and not have it..."
