hey guys, im lookin to buy an 89 f-350 with the 7.3 deisel. it has 140k miles and they claim it has great compression. the problem is that the radiator is full of oil and they claim it is because the oil cooler is leakin. by the way, it is a 4x4 w/ a 5 speed and a dump bed and the truck is in decent shape, is it worth $4500? thanks.
Well it could be the oil cooler orings, but it could also be cavitation.
When mine failed for cavitation I had water in the oil, and oil in the water and she hydrolocked. The good compression is not a full proof test, because if the pin holes occured lower in the cylinder then it would still show good compression.
I would say keep looking. there are other trucks out there. Or have them come down quite a bit. A remanned long block will run you around 3-4k when your all said and done.
so you guys are tellin me that i shouldnt buy it eh? i decided to try and jew him down to $2000. the drive train and body is worth at least that, and thats what im wantin anyhow.
