Does that front axle have open or closed knuckles?
All F100 4x4 leaf spring front axles from 59 to 65 were closed knuckle. All 1/2 ton 4x4s 66 to 79 had coil springs. So unless it was modified or pieced together it should be closed knuckle with drum brackes.
You are almost right, I am asking because the transfer case is not period correct and the cross member modified, so it’s possible the front axle could be modified from it’s stock configuration.
It is closed knuckle from little I know about 4 wheel drive. Meant to shoot pics but when the sun goes down I am multi tasking on other projects. Sure will be nice when the weather decides to cool off a bit.
The shifter/linkage on the bottom is the correct one for 59-60 4x4's. The axle looks correct also, as I believe the kingpin bolt pattern for later closed knuckle 44's was a trapezoid shape, vs. rectangular for the 59-60.
hotfalcoon that crossmember does look the same, like you said. Thanks for the pic.I have another cab coming, so when I pull this one off I will be able to see the mess with the metal work on the crossmember and determine what needs to be done. Byrd.dog thanks
Here is the replacement cab for this project. My buddy still has to pull it and deliver it to me. It has a few issues but they are repairable. Next in line at the gantry Nice steps it needs some repair but not bad
