So I was going to do this myself as ive always done all the work on my truck but I found a local performance diesel shop in my area to do the work. Saves my back and time. Really knowledgeable shop and deletes many 6.7s. So in talking to him we were going over wether to remove egr or use block off plates. He will do either one and it wasnt labor/money driven. Just trying to give me facts. He said by leaving it on there you risk the egr valve freezing open/shut because of heat/cold cycles being in engine bay. (Basically it becomes a sanitarium). So if the intent is being able to reuse the egr if needed it may or may not be frozen. Sounds very logical to me. So to any of you who just have used block off plates have you ever reconnected to see if it still fuctions?
I obviously save money on labor keeping egr on engine and using block off plates.
I dont need to go to emissions in my state but Im curious if the intent is to be able to reuse the egr is it better to remove it and wrap it up and put it in a dry environment? Same would go for torpedo I suppose. Need to keep any moisture whatso ever away from it to have it function correctly to reuse. Now im hoping to never put this back on my truck but you dont read any posts of people actually reusing these parts which makes me wonder the best way to ensure they are reusable.
I had a diesel performance shop delete the emissions off of my F250 but didn't have the shop install EGR block off plates. A few months later I installed the plates myself and the labor was about 30 minutes.
I would find it hard to believe they would charge you more than $50 in labor to install these plates.

Question isnt about labor. Labor is nothing to install. Labor is much more removing egr completely plus the cost of egr block off kit that is around 200 vs just plates which is 75-100..my question is,Im wondering who has reconnected their egr after leaving it on engine for quite a while and it still has a functioning valve. Vs taking it out completely and reusing it.
