I personally would go see if I can remove the short connecting rod from the shift linkage to the transmission manual lever. And then see if the lever on the side of the trans moves. If is does, ck that off the list. Then with it still disconnect get back in the truck and see if the steering column shifter will move. If not then that make sense to me that the steering column has some sort of issue/broke part.
FYI where Rod #7362 connects to that flat bar like piece is VERY hard to remove. Some weird plastic piece/grommet that makes it not just pop right out easy. I would try Rod # 7A024 1st. Hope it does not have the same connection grommet.
I would not put ALOT of force on the steering column shifter, lots of cast/pot metal items in there and a great way TO break something. I just re read you EDITED 1st post, if you can not get under it to hand shift, can you get under there to remove the rear d/s? That way it will roll free of the transmission.
All you need to do it remove the rear u joint U bolts, compress the slip yoke enough to get the d/s- u joint off the yoke and then wire it up out of the way.
I should be able to try and get under the truck, atleast to check if the transmission shifts from there, and while it may be possible to drop the driveshaft out, i think i would prefer not to, at this point i just have to wait and see, while reading up on anything i can find, until i have time to go up where the truck is
Best of luck, just be careful getting under there and hand shifting it. Parked in a tight spot of not, it might roll. I am out of the office to go work on Ford trucks. Later.
And remember so can a snake....I was under a truck and a big ol black snake popped up his head one time and startled me. Tight confines and a snake in the face, not fun. LOL
So something that i only now realized may be important or not (im an idiot) The engine is not original in the truck, its meant to have a 400 and has a 429 or 460, while that may not be too important, im not sure if they put in a different transmission or anything of the sort
