Washer pump question

I am in process of replacing rear wiper motor. It is out waiting for warranty replacement and I tried the front washer and it didn't work. Is this because the rear wiper motor is disconnected? Or is this an un related issue? Tried a search but I'm technically hadicapped

Wiper motor is not wired to the pump at all. They don't talk...It is a long distance relationship.

For the pump, it spins one way to squirt the front, and spins the other way to squirt the back. You simply reverse the polarity of the voltage to make it happen. This is done inside the multi-function switch.

Just an update. The front washer WILL NOT work while the rear wiper motor is disconnected. Once I put in the new rear wiper motor the front washer resumed working. So they are somehow connected.
