Well, I am not a fast and furious honda race car driver.(I wish I was, because they get all the chics!) I Have a 4.2L F150. I want the sound of those annoying import mufflers. Call me crazy, but I love it Does anyone know if I put one of those little $40 mufflers on my truck, will it hurt it at all. Ill stick with the inlet/outlet as close to stock, and I dont care about "horsepower gains". I just want to know if ill have to reset the computer or anything. Thanks!
well it shouldnt hurt the truck but if your truck puts out more the 10 hp (which iam sure it does) like the all mighty fart-pipers youll probly blow-out the muffler ...you could also do the same thing by welding on a 5 pound folgers can to the exhaust its alot cheaper and you get the same affect
It could be okay, but you will never sound like one of the little imports unless you swap out the 4.2 for a 4-cyl . You may have to worry about blowing it out, but just make sure you get one with an inlet as large as your pipe (or better yet, get a bigger pipe).
swap your truck out for a new craftsmen lawnmower or a weedeater. just joking. my friend did that to his chevy and he blew out his muffler real quick. i still love the sound of a loud exhaust, especially when a civic pulls up next to you and starts reving it up. my truck is quiet until i put my foot on the gas, i just love to drop it in neutral and let them hear the roar.
Ok, it's not a ford, but my brother-in-law just put a pair of Ractive oval cans in the back of his 4.7L tundra, so this may have some application of how the cans sound on a bigger engine (like some of the 4.6L and 5.4L eights if someone were to put it on).
It's got a good rumble at idle, and gets very raspy (but still deep) when he revs it. More like a racing engine than a truck. Not for me, but it sounded very different than they did on the 4-cyl I've heard them on.
Since you have a big honkin six, it will probably sound closer to the eight than the fours, and will likely be very raspy, but if you like it, more power to you.
if you use a strait through fart cannon it will act allmost like a glasspack and will be a lil riceythis kid down the street has duel cannons on his 4.3 s10 and it sounds like a honda
it wont hurt the truck. I just installed one of those "fart cans" as you call them on my 2.3L 4cyl ranger. It sounds great, nice and deep, and none of that annoying raspy stuff.
Be a MAN! Put a glasspack on it and forget the honda fart mufflers.
U put one of them import mufflers on it it's gonna be like neutering ur truck.Glasspack all the way!
The 4.2 is a v-6 right? dual glass packs man ,a truck should sound like a truck. I can't wait to get the headers and 2.5 inch glass packs on my 390, so when I pull up to a fart cannon I can drown out that frickin weedeater.
