2017 escape?

My wife's 2017 Escape with 35,000 miles has a rear end howling that was getting louder. So we made a appointment for the dealership to look at the problem,
and they said the tires where cupped and wanted to sell us 4 new tires for $1,200. I asked if they could rotate the tires and they said all 4 tires were cupped
and it wouldn't help. We didn't even get any paperwork for the time spent in the shop. I think it is a wheel bearing or the trans axle, and am very disappointed
the dealership's way of handling this. I'm getting a second opinion this weekend.

Seams to me that if the tires are cupped then something is wrong with the alignment.
Worn out parts? Need to take it to a shop that will inspect it for free and find out what's out of spec.
Still under Fords bumper to bumper warranty?

Get a second opinion. Get documentation of the issue from the dealer so if they don't fix it you still should be covered by wrnty (of that issue) in 300 miles.

My 2017 Escape has about 22K miles on it but it is all wheel drive. If yours is all wheel drive you have to replace all four tires at the same time, but you don't have to rotate them since they all wear evenly. My guess is the cupping was caused by some kind of alignment issue. You would not think it would be worn parts at only 35K miles. I would take it to an independent shop for an opinion.

I had a private mechanic who works a a Chevy dealership and he said it happens quite often with them. With pro rated tires they don't cover much. So we ended up getting new tires.

Still need to find out what messed up all four original tires or else have the same issue again.

Just took my 2017 C-Max to the dealership yesterday to trace a howling noise. They said my snow tires were making most of the noise and that they were also cupped. I asked what may have caused the cupping and they said misalignment. This car only had 26K miles on it. I bought it used with about 22K on it. Supposedly, it had been run through a comprehensive mechanical procedure and was sold to me with a new car warranty. I asked if an alignment was done on the car as part of that procedure. They checked but said no and wanted $85 to do one. I told them no thanks and took it to my local tire store where they aligned it for $54.95 and then installed a set of new all season tires. Both the left front and left rear were out of alignment. Now the howl is gone and car rides smooth as glass. I did complain to the dealership about selling me a used car with a new car warranty with no alignment check but I doubt if anyone there cares. If I hear back from them about this I will let you all know.
