Right now I have this 1963 Ford f100 with a 262 inline six engine backed with a four speed granny gear. I want to do a 302 v8 and t-5 overdrive trans swap. I was wondering what some of the challenges would be in order for me to do this, and just how I would do the whole swap period. I know arc light fab sells bolt in motor and trans mounts.
You're not going to believe this, but that 262 is a far better truck engine than the 302 will ever be.
The six produces torque, lots of torque, and at a useable rpm for street use.
Ford 302s (and Chevy, they're essentially the same, high-rpm, wimpy torque) do NOT produce torque, and not at lower rpm.
Ford small blocks (save possibly the 351W), are rev-happy, torque-less Mustang engines.
They also do not do well at fuel economy.
Better money, IMHO, would be a rear-gear swap, to something around 3:25 to 3:75.
I've seen plenty of 6 cyl beat the crap out of built 8's. If power is the need? Torque needs the first chair (power off idle). A built right 6 can get right with it and are easy to work on. My 66 F100 351W CC CS only got 10mpg on a good day.
I had thought of doing a rebuild on the 262 but my problem is that they are so hard to find parts for. The reason I was interested on doing the swap is because parts for a 302 are much more accessible. If I was to stick with my current drive train would you have any recommendation on how I should go about rebuilding the current 262 and where I could find parts for it?
I'll go against the current here a bit. If you want to keep your truck original great, keep the six. If you don't care about originality by all means swap in a 302. I doubt you would regret a 302/T5 swap.

What year is it?
"1963" has a 1964/66 F100/250 2WD & 1966 F100 4WD Styleside Bed.

Nice paint job. Keep the 6 and built it too your needs.
Hi! I actually had 2 302’s that I bought because I was considering swapping them into my 66, depending on the year you should be able to use you’re same harmonic balancer and flywheel as they’re both 28oz I believe, since your truck is a 63 you might need different engine mount towers, and as far as I remember that’s all you might need, I’m not very familiar with your current engine but I’m assuming it’s the same bell housing pattern but you’re going to want to double check, I’m rebuilding my 300 straight 6 and I know that it has the same pattern as a 302. Good luck!
Most of us aren't using our trucks as the beast of burden they were intended to be. If you're just going to be using it as a cruiser, then a 302 is fine. The T5 is a really wimpy transmission, so you will relegate to just cruising if you go that way, but it does have overdrive. You should also consider a 300 I6 though as it would look closer to original, get decent mileage and provide plenty of torque. You could still use the T5 but I would save my pennies for a Tremec. The 300 will also last forever and you won't have trouble finding parts. Just my .02. Looks like you already have at least 20 cents worth of advice.
