This year I finally had enough and spent the $ for 'MyFord Touch Sync 2 to Sync 3 Upgrade' found at a few different sites. It was a 20 minute install and works great with everything...so worthwhile for me.
His question was about Sync 2...not Sync 3 and whether it is installed in what trucks.
And to answer his question, Sync 2 does not support Apple CarPlay.
I don't think we read the OP the same way. Now that I look at it again, it appears he's quoting an article that has a typo about Sync 2, when it should say "Sync 3 version 2.2".

That should say "Sync 3 version 2.2".
I loaded Sync 3 version 2.2 into my 2016 Taurus that came with Sync 3. Android Auto worked.
