Newb question about PTOs
I'm trying to learn about how PTOs are configured. I found lots of different PTOs online with all kinds of different outputs, but just about all of them say "SAE 6 bolt mount". This implies to me that there is a universal standard that allows any PTO to bolt on any transmission as long as they both have the SAE 6 bolt mount. Does that mean I could buy a used PTO from a Eaton transmission in a Freightliner and bolt it right onto the side of my Clark transmission in the F600? If this is true, it would certainly simplify my search since I just need to get the appropriate gear ratio and output style. I'm just having a hard time believing that the gears would mesh properly between all the different possible combinations.

While many of the mounting plates are the same the inside gears are not. For example the NP435 I have in my F600 I had to specifically find one that was for the L derivative to make sure it'd mount up and mesh properly. If you talk to Chelsea Dana they should be able to steer you to what you need.

Pretty much all MD and HD truck transmissions had the same 6, 8 or 10 bolt pto bolt pattern, but the pto's will not interchange, the gears are configured differently to match the transmission and application the pto is to be used on.
You'll need a pto for the model of Clark transmission you have, you need to find the tag on you trans to get the model number, then contact as Chelsea or Muncie dealer to find the pto you need.
