Whining while driving

2012 f150 with 150,000 miles sounds like I have snow tires while highway driving.

Possible cause(s):

  • brand of tire (and/or its tread pattern).
  • wheel alignment issue.

If the tires do not have an aggressive tread, then you might have a failing wheel bearing.

Other possibilities can't be completely ruled out.

Does it get more pronounced when you turn the wheel? If so, it the wheel bearing. Mine is in need of replacement as we speak. My truck has 116k and I replaced the left side at 70k.

Exactly where my mind went and is there a vibration while driving?

When I saw this thread it took me back to when the 3.5L eco's first came out and the running joke was there's a lot of whining coming from the passenger seat while going down the road.

It could even be a bad idler pulley.

A bad alternator can make a similar noise too.
