Option Weights

I'm looking at ordering a 2020 F350 in a single rear wheel in a few months if I can make the weight numbers work with what I anticipate is an increase in the GVWR. The wife does not want to give up the massaging seats which I think means we are limited to a KR or Platinum. I will not give up my diesel so weight reduction possibilities are limited at best. I was wondering if there is any way to determine the weight of the various options. Right now I'm thinking of eliminating the sun roof and the off road stuff which I think is the FX4 package with the skid plates. I have no use for either. That would limit me to a KR as I think the sun roof is part of the Platinum package. I would be open to a nicely optioned Lariat but I don't think it has the massaging seats as an option. Maybe with the 2020 it will, who knows.

The FX4 package is minimal, I would be surprised if both skids combined weigh much more than 50 lb., and that's the only weight adding part if the package. The moonroof should be somewhere close to 100lbs I would think.

Based on that the link above, skids 41lbs. and moon roof 64 lbs.

Thanks, StonedGrey. I had no idea such a thing existed. According to the chart the skid plates add 41 pounds and the moon roof 64 so that's 105 pounds. Whether or not I need that 105 remains to be seen but it's nice to know.

Your welcome.
All the option weights add up fast.

Someone on here posted a payload sticker on a F250 at 1,600lbs. Worthless diesel mini van.

...except there aren't any mini vans that could conventional tow 14.5K lbs., which even that 250 could still do. That is a low payload number, I have a decently equipped 250 and still have a # thats 639lb. higher. Im guessing long bed, moon roof but what else could subtract that much from payload?

A 14.5K trailer with only 1,600lbs of payload? Shouldn't be done. A 14.5K trailer load at 10% tongue weight would eat up 1,450lbs + WDH weight of the 1,600lbs of payload. Where you going to sit after that? Payload is gone. And good luck loading the trailer to 10% tongue heavy. It will be more like 15% which = not enough payload.
A 10,000lb trailer loaded to 15% tongue heavy wont leave enough payload for a wife and a kid.
Its a worthless truck at 1,600lbs payload. I had 2 F150s that had over 2,000lbs of payload if that puts any perspective on it.

The tow rating and hitch ratings are from Ford without a WDH. Yes 10% would be the minimum tongue weight and yes it would be hard with just the driver to land at that exact payload number, but the reality is, it could, and safely do it and probably more. Where as we all know, there isnt a mini van that could and your F150's, even with that higher # on the sticker would not be happy or safe imo.

Everyone's use is different, mentioning "wife and kids" tells me your example use is travel trailer with the family, and in my head I'm thinking, why would the wife and kids be in the truck when towing a trailer full of building materials or a skid steer.

Im still interested to know what besides long bed and moon roof could deduct so much from the payload.

I'm just hoping Ford matches or exceeds the increased GVWR slapped on their HD's.

What do you need to be at?

My loaded out f250 6.7 Platinum, every option but PTO, bedliner, and rear airbag seatbelts, is 2076 payload. When i say loaded its optioned out down to the vehicle safe.

Ive had a lot more on the pin but that is another discussion.

3800 minimum, more if I can get it. Most of the F350 Platinum/KR srw's I looked at when I bought my dually in August of 17 had between 3200 and 3300. I have about 3000 pin weight so need some room for the wife and I, our hitch and a few other things. I have plenty of room in the other ratings as my fifth wheel total weight is 15,500. It also has disc brakes so it really stops well. I just couldn't pull the trigger on a srw because I was not comfortable being 600 or so pounds over the payload. I totally like the dually when towing but not very much when I have to use it as my personal vehicle, which is 95% of the time. We spend 2 to 4 months a season in our fifth wheel but our trips may last 6 weeks and are almost always to one location, like Colorado to escape the heat.

Option out a King Ranch short bed 18 inch wheels. Need heavy service front suspension to get 3.55 gears.

Can skip the auto massaging seats, sunroof, rear heated seats, etc... And still get the LEDs, Blis, radar cruise, adaptive steering, etc.

Do not know which side steps are the lightest.

Should be pretty close if you are set on a higher end package.

When I said that I meant skip the King Ranch Ultimate package. You can option everything else except multi contour seats. Gets rid of that and the sunroof. I would even skip the Skid Plates (also included with FX4).
