I think you turn the valve to the left and it will drain into the tube attached to it. Make sure you have a catch pan directly under the left hand side of the radiator this is where the tube ends drains out. Keep the valve open until you see nothing but deisel fuel coming out.
On my '02, you actually push the lever toward the rear - don't know if that is different with model year or not. Also, mine seems to drain all over the steering linkage, which definitely isn't cool, so I crawl underneath and wipe everything down with a rag.
oppy, I think that's what he's saying. Push it to the left towards the rear of the engine. Don't try and lift it up to the rear, push left towards the rear.
I crawled under my '02 and attached a rubber hose to the pipe so it wouldn't dump diesel all over everything. Don't know why they made the tube so short. I know, I'm whining but I still love the truck!

Definately hook up a hose. I just replaced my fuel filter. The drain underneath was actually much easier to find than I thought. Crawl under on the passenger side and as one person wrote and you will see this line that just ends and connects to nothing. I believe it is a 5/32" hose. I had even thought about just leaving a 6-12" hose permantly hanging under there so I don't have to crawl under anymore.

Actually I believe it is 5/16". I heard of a good trick from someone at The Diesel Stop on how to easily get the hose on. Dip the end of the hose in boiling water for several seconds right before you put it on the drain. It makes it much more workable.
Well I drained the water from my fuel bowl. Thanks again for your help. On my 95 I couldnt even see where the water was coming from. I just put a bucket in the general area, worked out well.. The reason why I drained it anyway was because lately ive been getting really bad fuel mileage. I hope this corrects the problem.
hey johnsdiesel, you can also dip the end of the hose in soapy water. If the hose is a correct size the hot water is not required but if it is a size too small then by all means use the hot water method. Had a friend that thought using a propane torch would warm it up and make it stretch. He just stunk up the garage! Another idea would be to use a hair dryer. I keep an old one in my garage just for that. Seems to be a throw away fromt e spouse since it cuts out after about 2 minutes of use due to high temp switch.
