Kickdown cable

I got it all installed and everything (my aod) and now I can't seem to figure out where the heck the cable attaches or anything. The directions sucked I thought. I got a lokar kickdown cable from jegs for the tranny and its confusing. The guy at the junk yard told me that it didn't even need to be hooked up to run...it just wouldn't kickdown when u wanted to pass or something. IT does have a rod attaching from the shifting lever to another spot on the tranny that swivels sticking horizontaly out of the driverside of it. Is this the reminence of an old kickdown and how do i hook up this new one? Thanks in advance.

Junk Yard Guys will lie you know! I'd call LoKar and ask them. I think you have found the kick down lever, now all you need to do is figure out how to connect it to the LoKar cable. Good luck and please let us know how it works out. By the way what engine/transmission are you running?

You don't have to have a kickdown cable
I dont use one...
But they are kinda nice.
So the guy at the junkyard didn't lie to you.
The truck will run w/o it
But if im not mistaken isnt the cable supposed to connect to the carb also?

I run a Holley 750 and a solid kickdown rod. It connects to the carb right beside the throttle lever and connects to the tranny right beside the shifting lever. Everything is in one location on both ends. The only concern I have is once you get the cable installed you might have to attach it to the fire wall so the cable will move and not the whole housing. If my brain works correctly the kickdown will not work if the housing moves. I could be wrong so check into it.

I bought a cable from Lokar for a C6 and Edlebrock carburetor. I also had to buy a bracket from Lokar that attached to my carb. Together they seem to work fine.

Thanks for the reply. I think I can hook it up to my carb no prob, but its the hooking it to the tranny I can't seem to figure out. Oh well. I'll give the help line a call and see if they can give me some tips. By the way, its a 302/AOD combo. Thanks again.

for a c4 or 6 the kickdown feature is optional But for an AOD you have to have the kickdown hooked up and hooked up right or you will fry the tranny in no time.

Check out the Bauman engineering site for info on this and definitely get Lokar to explain how to hook it up. You should probably have a tranny shop fine tune the set up once you have it installed.

my two cents

I think the cable isn't a kickdown on the AOD, it is a TV cable(throttle valve). It is used to "read" the position of the throttle and adjust line pressure as needed, kind of like a mechanical vacuum modulator. I agree with Blaine, it needs to be hooked up and set properly or the trans won't last long.
