cab mounts

i just found out my drivers side cab mount is gone. well not gone but rusted out. kinda figure this is what has also been my steering problem. would not come back to center by itself. so i stuck a board in there as a temp thing, and it seemed to help steering out, but i got to change this, how hard is it to do ? the other cab mount is fine, i guessed i never really looked at the drivers side til today. I see them at motorhaven for 30 bucks, getting ready to order it, would the drivers side be the left or the right side, guess it depends on if your in the truck or in front of it. I am thinking left am i right ? (no pun intended) any info on yet another new project would be nice thanks

cab mounts

Allways think of it from the DRIVERS SEAT . So it would be the left side . You just need a MIG welder and something to cut out the old mount
good luck

cab mounts

I'm knee-deep in that project myself. If the floor pan is in good shape, it shouldn't be too bad. Mine has all types of rust on the drivers that started behind the fresh air vent and rusted out most of the footwell and cab mount.

Both front cab supports are gone and the cab actually had settled down on the framerails. It makes for a rough ride. I've been using a 4 inch grinder with a cutoff wheel to remove the cancer and a Millermatic 135 to patch it back together.

You might want to under coat the new metal to protect against the elements. Around here we some bad conditions for nice old trucks and perfect conditions for rust.

my floor pan has a little cancer too, but not up near the ven or where the mount is on the other side, i think i can just weld in some metal to replace the hole. I stuck that board in to hole it up until i get the time to do it, and forgot about the steering gear box, sure enough the new angle done blew the seal outa the top of it, so now i got a mess to clean up and gotta pull that dame thing off again and replace the seal. nextr time i guess i should loosen up that gear box before i go and jack up the body.

hmm thats something to think about. i will have to wait til the ones get here from motorhaven and trial fit them to see if i can leave the old one on. i guess i just cut off the rusted spot and seal it up and it should last another 30 years. the floor pan repair isnt bad and i should be able to fix that withen a saturday afternoon, thanks for the 411 though.
