i have a 1975 f150 with a 360 in it and when u start it up it misses wont hold an idle for very long and when it does actually run good enough to drive it will only run on 7 cylinders and sputters and it has dual exaust out the back and it will smoke out of the drivers side exaust pipe, does anyone know what is wrong with it and what it will take to get it to run right and some modifications to go faster to, any help would be great thanks!!
on your entry on 78beat150's note sounded like you had white smoke is it white or black if it;s black check your carb could be a stuck choke, stuck float, dirty needle/seat causing it to flood while starting and fouling a plug if it is white smoke you got a water leak in the head, pull the plugs look'em over if one is really grubby or wet wiyh gas go to the carb. if one is really clean it's a water leak
over fueling with black smoke block choke plate open with a screwdriver try to start it look into carb ifit's all wet with fuel when running floats to high or stuck or a piece of crud in the needle and seat o0f the carb

Remain calm! Building another motor for this truck is fine. I covered this in your other post. But in the meantime, your truck should run and be able to be driven. Parts you buy to repair/tune this engine will also work in the build up engine, like air cleaner, belts, plugs, plug wires, plugs and so on. You need to determine why this engine does not run properly. Besides if you get it running well you can take your time building the replacement engine and if this engine runs OKAY you could sell it. So lets findout why it is not running properly. Carefully, one wire at a time check the firing order to be sure you havent crossed up a cpuple of wires. Start it, get it warm, (operating temprature)remove all the spark plugs (write down which cylinder each of them came from), remove the coil wire (both ends), block the throttle all the way open, test the compression. Make both a wet and a dry test. Post back!
i know whats wrong with it the heads need reworked, the vlaves are bad, and there is a slightly bent pushrod on the #7 cylinder, i will drive it till i gett he other motor finished it will be fine for now thanks for the help
