I know it mounts with a plastic clip similar to the larger chrome trim (with the black vinyl inserts). And to attach it, it slides onto like a rivet head.
Mabey check you're local auto parts store. I got all new ones for my 73 at my local napa. They have a whole display of different clips. Just try to bring one to match it up, because there was alot that were VERY slightly different on size but looked the same

LMAO like door panel hardware. Hundreds that are ALMOST the right ones.
Here's what they look like. Metal clips on the ends, plastic in between. Plastic clip has # D3T9-9929348-AA on them. I think that is the number, print is really small & I can't find my magnifying glass. I have like 6 of the plastic, & 4 of the metal I'd sell, but you'd have to buy the trim as well.
The above picture is correct for the ends of the trim. The middle parts have 3 plastic tabs that like rich said are on rivets. However, I dont see how they slide off, I have a fender with those clips and they wont slide off. There is something between the rivet and the plastic. Ill grab a pic tonight or tomorrow.
I am about 99% sure when I took the thin trim off my (who knows what year) patch panel parts bed, there was no metal attachment clips/points on either end of the trim, on either side. And there were 7 plastic clips per side, that I just taped right off the rivet like head. I have 14 plastic clips and the LB bed thin trim setting on the shelf. I missed the chance to get some thin trim off the fenders and doors of a JY truck a while back.
Here's my fender. I just sold the skinny trim piece. It had the metal posts with nuts on both ends like the pic above, and those go in the empty holes. Then I have 3 clips that will not pop off the rivets (because of whatever is between the rivet and the plastic. Hope that helps.
The original plastic clips were not attached with rivets. There were studs welded to the body & the clips popped over those studs. If you have clips held on by a rivet, you have to drill the rivet out to get them off. When the rivet is installed, it smashed the soft plastic clip before the rivet "pops". Then the clip will be smashed thin where the rivet was & won't hold securely on an original stud.
The plastic clip is 1 3/16" long, about 15/16" wide.
It is possible to install new studs using an attachment on a stud welder. This is how I installed the wide molding on my F150. I didn't want to drill a bunch of holes in my perfect body panels, so I bought the welder & did it what I feel is the right way. Worked well, & wasn't too difficult.

Yeah I didn't even think about how it's a rivet and not a stud...
I did not know it was fairly easy to add studs... I've been narrowing my body panel search for parts that have the studs... I may look into it and reopen my search pool.
DDB1973....Either Fordguy2100 has them and doesn't know that he does...……. or I pitched them. I remember telling him/ someone that these are a bunch of trim clips. Don't junk these.
Ill doublecheck upstairs this weekend but I'm pretty sure I gave them away.
