I bought a new ecm from Oreillys auto parts. Installed and it's doing the same thing. Won't start when cold. I shoot gas down it's neck and it fires right up. Fuel pump still runs continuously when I first turn the key on ,on the first start of the day. After the truck heats up it starts every time. A nother bad ecm? I don't get what's going on with it
Btw. The ecm I pulled out of it was from a 93 Bronco with a 5.8. I replaced it with the correct 5.0 ecm. Now it runs like crap and has carbon monoxide smell. Like it's running rich.
any codes showing? if it has a brand new ecm then i doubt it is that. check for codes even if there is no check engine light, the ecm isn't getting the data it needs from sensors or a sensor apparently.
My truck started doing that, the ecm (PCM on mine with the E4OD) got changed out and it solved it. I then went thru every sensor on the truck. Changed the throttle body intake gasket and IAC got cleaned an a new gasket. Something is outta whack and it does not appear that throwing ecm's at is is fixing it.
On initial key turn the fuel pumps should run for a cpl seconds, not run continuously until the truck is fired if I recall correctly
Check the engine coolant temp sensor measure the resistance. I had the same issue ect was reading open then when warmed up it will read normal how I test it was remove the sensor, place it in the freezer and measure resistance if it has low or no resistance it needs to be replaced
What's funny is I pulled an ecm out of one of my other trucks and it works fine in this truck. But I've now bought 3 ecm's and each one does something different.
the computers are engine specific. I got one sent to me for a 4.9 (correct) but it was for the c-6 transmission (wrong)... truck ran beautiful, engine wise but I have an E4OD.... it wouldn't work..once i got the right engine/tranny combo PCM for my truck all was well. Make SURE that it is the correct one for your truck or you will continue to chase your tail in circles. Once you are sure you have the correct set up for your truck then start working on solving the issues it is having. Constantly pulling and replacing the computer isn't going to magically make existing issues other places disappear.
