Dead battery after 2 years?

2017 F350 6.2. Battery quit on me after only 2 years. Is this a common problem? Wasn't happy to spend $200 on a battery on a 2 year old truck. Plus it was a good time to add the second battery that I set it up for. $400!

Battery is sort of like a piggy bank, take out more than you put in it will be empty and die an early death. Check alternator output, and also for parasitic or phantom load.

Even a brand new battery can die in weeks if there's an issue causing it more stress. Parasitic drain is a common one.

Do you run it in extreme (very hot or very cold) climates?

Batteries in the Sonoran Desert live short, hard lives - 2 years is pretty much standard when air temps are over 100 every day for 3 months.

Underhood temps can easily be 120+, especially under load.

Lots of miles, idling, and hot and cold temps will shorten the life.

Battery quality has gone down in the last few years. I think it has something to do with lead not being as available.

2 years is pretty normal here in Arizona. also that should've been under warranty anyways. Got both of mine warrantied a couple months ago.

Everything to pinch a penny...that is why quality, such as batteries used by Ford are typically garbage. It is mind blowing at the price you pay for these trucks but unpsetting when the manufacture skimps on cheap parts that will leave you stranded. However, like others have said, cold and heat will zap a battery rather quickly depending on where you live. The best advice I have ever taken when it came to this topic was buying a quality AGM battery and never looking back. They are a night and day difference from your typical lead acid and will out last most everything else.

In my area, everyone I know that drives a Ford has to replace a battery around that 2yr mark. Lol most of those are F-150s though.

I got really tired of both my 17 and 18 leaking battery fluid. I swapped in the Odyssey Extreme batteries and they are easily 20lbs heavier than stock due to the pure lead. The price was a little ridiculous at 400.00 each so we will see if they hold up.

Only three companies make AGM [absorbed glass mat] auto batteries for the North American market. Heat and cold are battery killers, as are short commuter profile trips.

I plan on replacing Ford OEM batteries at 3 years. Doesn't seem to matter, Truck, wifes car or kids cars, OEM batteries around my house are dead 36-40 months

Heat. Batteries last a lot longer in northern states.

If you have 2 batteries, how to you tell when one or the other is about to die, or almost dead? Seems like the stronger battery would carry the other one up to some point.

It’s a motorcrft battery. I have them in my Excursion and then in the trucks(2012/2018). Usually die right before warranty runs out and they replace at no charge.
