Cab is now bare. Need some HELP!
- Turn signal switch has been replaced.
- Instrument cluster has new circuit panel, new bulbs and new voltage regulator.
- Sound deadener and insulation on the cab floor, inside the doors, behind the seat (back of cab) and headliner.
- New polyvinyl flooring going in along with new threshold plates.
- All new weatherstripping, door window tracks going in.
- New radio, door speakers ("rear" speakers) and dual-voice in-dash speaker ("front" speakers) going in.
- New seatbelts going in.
I've got a few small rust spots to deal with on the driver floor board. Mostly surface which I'll sand away and treat with Rust Encapsulator, as well as 1 tiny hole which I'll sand away, treat with Rust Encapsulator and then a fiberglass patch and resin kit. Surface rust on the door sills as well which I'll be dealing with. Also...surface rust on the transmission hump which I will also be sanding away and then treating with Rust Encapsulator. Finally, before laying in the sound deadener, insulation and new flooring, I'll treat the entire cab floor with either Rust Encapsulator or POR 15.
Now...my questions...the things I need help with. (questions are IN ALL CAPS)
1. The headliner insulation was glued in and as I pulled it out, its now a mess. Elbow grease alone, along with Goo-gone is NOT getting the job done. HOW DO I GET THIS STUFF OFF?
2. At the back of the cab, where the cab floor meets the back wall, is what appears to be a seam seal. But in places its old and cracking and even disintegrated just a bit. I'm able to chisel it out if I want to (as seen in the pic). I'm inclined to go ahead and chisel out the entire seam seal and clean it, treat the minor surface rust and put in new Seam Seal. YES? IF SO, WHAT IS THE BEST SEAM SEAL TO USE?
3. When I pulled the shift boots off of the two floor shifters, there seamed to be a tiny bit of insulation / seal under one of them, but it was mostly gone. It just looked like it was there at one time. IS THERE SUPPOSED TO BE A SEAL OR FOAM OR INSULATION UNDER THESE SHIFT BOOTS? IF SO, WHERE DO I GET THEM...I CAN'T FIND THEM IN ANY DIAGRAM ANYWHERE.
4. The glue that was used for the original weather stripping...I can't seam to get it out...at all. No amount of Goo-and elbow grease does hardly anything. DO I NEED TO GET THIS STUFF OFF OR CAN I JUST GLUE AND INSTALL THE NEW WEATHER STRIPPING RIGHT OVER THIS? IF IT NEEDS TO COME OFF, WHAT DO I USE (LIKE THE HEADLINER QUESTION)?
I think I used paint thinner and a grinder with a 4” or so wire wheel. I rolled bed liner in my floors so I had to get it clean.
Wipe on thinner, wheel spot, wipe again. Be careful not to fling the hunk. Be prepared to throw your wheel away. I used grinder in one hand and cardboard in the other to block what little spray there was. But be careful like that.
I have no help other than that.
