I’ve been looking for a flathead for my 53 f-100. Well i found this and got really excited but after thinking about it a while I’m not sure i want this for my truck. I was looking to do a more
“original” look for it. What would you guys do? I think it’s an awesome engine just not sure it’s right for me.
It's beautiful, I love the look but only you can decide if it is what you want or not. I would make it my decision and not be influenced by what others say, it is YOU that will have to live and work on your decision.
I'm guessing it's also not cheap, lots of bling on it. But it also seems to be a known quantity, i.e., not cracked, already rebuilt (?), and some nice extras. Paired with a T5 or an automatic, it would make a really nice runner. The 2x2 carbs won't do much for economy, if you care.
A few thoughts about putting a flathead in your truck. You have a Yblock in there now right? I don't think the Yblock bellhousing will bolt up to the back of a flathead, so unless you have a 1953 Ford truck bell housing you will have to get one. The motor mount for the '53 are also specific to that 1 year and engine. And the radiator is also specific to the year and engine. So unless you have these parts already, you will need them to install that beauty.
Personally, I'd have that in a minute. But then, I've got just enough hot rodder blood in me that I would really enjoy that, and the fact that my ideal build would be more of a shop truck hot rod, so that would fit right in for me. I didn't sound like some radical weird deal that wouldn't be fun to drive, so there's a plus. It should go as good as it shows. You'll have to decide how bad you want to stay stock, vs look totally kickin' at the Dairy Queen.
Well there ya go! Only gotta find a radiator and you’re golden. Sure wish I could find something like that here in the MidWest. That’d look nice in my 53 Panel.
If you like it then get it! . That’s what it’s all about. Your taste. I’m hoping to have my truck at a show in the next couple weeks for the first time and I’m sure I’m gonna hear “I don’t like fuel injection on old trucks, I don’t like fiberglass parts, why Chevy taillights on a Ford?” But you know what, it’s what I like so I did it. Do the same and grab that jewel!
